The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has unveiled its 2025 World Monuments Watch list, a biennial selection of 25 treasured heritage places around the world facing urgent challenges and timely opportunities for preservation. Among the places listed is one very unusual destination: the Moon.
The WMF differs from UNESCO World Heritage listings in that World Monuments listings are picked from nominations from individuals or community-based groups anywhere in the world. UNESCO sites are evaluated by a country where a site is located. That said, many of the places on the 2025 World Monuments Watch list are themselves designated by UNESCO.
So, what are the destinations included on the list, and why on earth is the Moon included? Click on to find out.
