A driver is dead after ramming a vehicle into a synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, on March 12, triggering fears of a targeted attack. Authorities said the suspect drove through the doors of Temple Israel and down a hallway before the vehicle caught fire.
Security guards confronted the driver and exchanged gunfire as he approached the building. One guard who was struck by the vehicle was hospitalized but is expected to recover, officials said.
The FBI confirmed it is investigating the incident as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. All students and staff at a preschool inside the synagogue were reported safe.
