Commenting on TV networks that give him bad press, US President Donald Trump said on September 18: "Maybe their license should be taken away."
Aboard Air Force One on the flight back from the official visit to the UK, journalists asked if he would ask Brendan Carr, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair, to weigh in on other late-night hosts, following Stephen Colbert's and now Jimmy Kimmel's shows' cancellation. Carr had called for Kimmel's suspension ahead of ABC's decision, which was announced on September 17. Trump called Carr "a patriot" and a "tough guy," and incited him to reexamine the licenses of TV networks.
ABC's decision to suspend 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' was met with cheers from Trump and criticism from various comedians, hosts, artists guilds, and Democrats, who have asked for Carr's resignation. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna moved to subpoena Carr to appear before the House Oversight Committee in an effort to "stop the intimidation of private businesses and to stand up for the First Amendment."
Trump's second term has been a rocky path from the beginning, dividing people with his executive orders from day one. The extensive list of the new administration's decisions has included rolling back rights for particularly vulnerable groups, mass firings, raids, and deportations, among other measures.
From affirming the purchasing of multiple foreign lands to suggesting the annexing of neighboring nations, some of Trump's suggestions have been considered outlandish, even to his supportive base.
In this gallery, we highlight the oddest of the administration's decisions (so far). Click through to explore these head-scratchers.
