More women are choosing to delay motherhood than ever before. But the age of first-time moms is influenced by a number of factors. In developed nations, financial strain, cultural changes, or the prioritizing of education or careers lead many young people to delay having children or opt for childless families altogether. Conversely, in developing countries and poorer regions of the world, the average age of having a firstborn is far lower, with 18 or 19 years being commonplace.
The World Population Review has published its Average Age of Having First Child by Country 2025 report. Here we list 30 nations by rank where women have chosen to start a family later in life, the average age indicated after the country name. And as you'll see, fertility rates are falling at an alarming rate in some countries.
