Pope Leo XIV celebrated his 70th birthday on September 14 with a blessing from St. Peter’s Square, where hundreds gathered with banners, balloons, and multilingual signs.

“My dears, it seems you know today I have turned 70,” Pope Leo said to the cheering crowd. “I thank the Lord, my parents, and all those who remembered me in their prayers.”

The Vatican reported birthday greetings from around the world, including drawings from children at Rome’s Bambino Gesù Hospital, many expressing hopes for peace. Messages from global leaders and Vatican bishops praised Leo’s bridge-building ability and moral clarity, reflecting his expanding international influence.
