In the spring of 1992, the city of Los Angeles erupted in protest following the violence enacted against Rodney King. King, a 47-year-old African-American man, was brutally beaten by four Los Angeles police officers. The scene, filmed by a citizen who witnessed the event from their balcony, shook up the city and provoked a wave of civil disobedience that marked LA forever.
Now images from the protests in LA in early June 2025 against the raids of undocumented immigrants by the federal government may be reminiscent for many who remember the 1992 events. These parallels are leading some experts to question if today is merely an echo of the past.
