A major Atlantic Ocean current system that regulates global weather patterns could collapse as early as the late 2030s, according to new research. According to the study, the combined impact of the shutdown of the AMOC and global warming could make temperatures in northern Europe akin to those in the Ice Age—and it isn’t just Europe at risk.
