The Global Peace Index (GPI) is a major tool used to measure how peaceful countries are. It’s created by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) and ranks 163 countries and territories, covering nearly 99.7% of the world’s population. The GPI looks at 23 different factors in three main areas: safety and security, ongoing conflicts (both within and between countries), and how militarized a country is.
The 2025 report is a reflection of the growing risk of major conflicts. The goal is to give a clear, data-based picture of global peace, its economic impact, and how to build more peaceful societies.
