On August 14, German investigators found a third drone and about 50 g (1.8 oz) of a suspected military explosive in Kabelsketal, an area west of the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany. According to reports by local media, the drone and explosive are linked to an unsuccessful attack on the airport. The equipment was found 10 days after the attempted sabotage.
The airport is a cargo and military logistics hub used by NATO and Ukraine’s Antonov Airlines for the purposes of transporting military supplies and equipment. Some intelligence sources suspect that Russian intelligence was involved in the attempted attack. So far, Moscow has denied any involvement. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz indicated that the government would soon provide more information about who was behind the attacks.
Indeed, drones are often seen in the news because of their use in military combat, as well as growing concerns about how they're intruding on people’s privacy. However, there are also lots of positive uses for drones as well, including wildlife conservation, wildfire control, and medical supply delivery.
