Droughts are worsening across the globe, disrupting lives, economies, and ecosystems. The US National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC), in partnership with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), has completed a major survey of global droughts from 2023 to 2025. Their findings reveal some of the most widespread and destructive droughts in recorded history, with severe impacts from southern Africa to the Mediterranean. Drawing on hundreds of scientific, media, and government sources, their new report pinpoints today’s most critical drought hotspots.
