Assisted dying is the process by which a terminally ill person, or someone in deep suffering, is legally allowed to end their own life. The patient is assisted in doing this by being provided with medically approved and pain-free drugs.
There are currently 12 states that allow this, and several more that are on their way to legalizing it. Each one has different rules and guidelines about how the process takes place.
