Rob Jetten, the 38-year-old leader of the Dutch centrist party D66, which won the most votes in the country’s elections on October 29, is now on course to become the youngest and first openly gay prime minister in Dutch history.
According to recent reports from local news agencies, Jetten's party has overtaken the far-right Freedom Party and is now expected to lead negotiations to form a coalition government. Jetten is known for his liberal, pro-European stance and progressive views.
Besides him, there are more pioneering politicians who proudly paved the way for other members of the LGBTQ+ community to become presidents and prime ministers, but their journey hasn’t always been easy. Their trailblazing work has changed rights and visibility for the queer community all around the world.
