Did you know that throughout the 20th century, humans built, on average, one dam per day? These profitable concrete slabs—intended to assist in irrigation systems, produce electricity, and help prevent flooding—have also been used to take over entire territories by diverting water from one area to another. The Hoover Dam on the Colorado River or the Aswan Dam on the Nile are examples of dams that have attracted international attention, even visitors, but tens of thousands more go unnoticed by the world’s eye.
