In early August 2025, Colorado’s Parks and Wildlife unit began to receive calls from concerned citizens about scary-looking rabbits hopping around Fort Collins. The typical fluffy animals had grown what looked like horns from their faces and all over their bodies. Upon seeing these “zombie rabbits,” people became worried.

One caller to the state’s Parks and Wildlife unit described the rabbits as having “black toothpicks” poking out from their mouths. What’s happening with Colorado’s bunnies that’s causing them to grow these "horns," and what can be done to help them? Do these rabbits pose
