The Nobel Peace Prize is an important platform that recognizes the efforts of people all over the world making strides for peace, whether locally, regionally, or globally. Named after famed Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, the prize has been awarded to changemakers since 1901, including individuals and organizations alike.
Since World War II, the prize has been primarily awarded to those who have made efforts in these key areas: democracy and human rights, peace work and negotiation, and arms control and disarmament. Every year, on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death on
December 10, the award is distributed in a formal ceremony in Oslo City Hall.
