Tennessee has become the first state in the United States to introduce mandatory gun safety lessons in the classroom. Children as young as five will be taught how to identify a fake gun from a real one,
safe firearms storage, school safety, and injury prevention, among a host of other training requirements. They will also need to learn to demonstrate a responsible attitude regarding firearms. The courses have been designed in response to soaring gun crime figures across the nation—not least in Tennessee itself, which has some of the highest
firearm-related deaths involving children in the country.
So, how will these gun safety classes work, and what's involved?
