The ancient city of Timgad is often compared to Pompeii as it has remained almost untouched for centuries. Sand from the Sahara slowly buried the town after people abandoned it more than a thousand years ago. When explorers discovered it again, they found a Roman city frozen in time.
Some of its characteristics, such as streets, arches, temples, and homes, remain intact to this day. Walking through the ruins feels like stepping into the past, stealing a glimpse of Roman art, culture, and architecture far from Italy.
In this gallery, we reveal Timgad’s story and how a distant city grew into a Roman cultural center. Interested? Click to know more.
