Loneliness

While feelings of isolation have long been associated with older adults, new research indicates that loneliness is a widespread concern affecting people of all ages, including young adults and those in their middle years. Scientists from Emory University and collaborating institutions recently investigated loneliness rates across 29 countries, analyzing data from over 64,000 individuals from North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

They created a scoring system to measure loneliness, on a scale of one to six, where a higher score signals a more isolated population. Understanding these global scores offers insight into the state of personal and social interactions and the challenges faced by diverse societies.

In this gallery, we explore the study's findings, the countries grappling with growing isolation, and the complex factors contributing to it. Curious? Click to know more.
