The devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease and dementia are well documented. Dementia is an umbrella term for loss of memory, language, problem-solving, and other cognitive abilities that are severe enough to interfere with everyday life. Alzheimer's, a progressive, irreversible brain disorder, is the most common form of dementia.
