Hit songs that inspired Hollywood movies
Avril Lavigne is turning 'Sk8er Boi' into a film
©
Getty Images

Film adaptations of books and TV shows are quite common, and even song-to-TV adaptations are making a breakthrough, but have you heard of songs inspiring films?
The latest feels a little overdue actually since the song tells a famed and beloved story of star-crossed lovers. We're talking about Avril Lavigne's 2003 hit 'Sk8er Boi' of course! The pop-punk princess announced her plans on the podcast 'She Is the Voice' to turn the wildly popular song into a movie to commemorate the song’s 20th anniversary.
“To this day it is one of my favourite songs to play live,” Lavigne said of the track. Then she casually added, “I’m actually going to turn this song into a film and take it to the next level." Many will remember, the song tells the story of a punk skateboarder and a popular ballerina who turned him down in school despite having feelings for him. Then five years later, she's feeding the baby at home and sees him being a rockstar on MTV, and it's all narrated by his now-girlfriend. Drama!
Check out this gallery to see which other hit tracks went from speakers to silver screens.
