'Alice in Wonderland' (2010) - This quirky film based on the novel by Lewis Carroll was the first to be released in the flood of Disney live-action remakes. ‘Cinderella’ (2015)
- Based on the classic movie from 1950, 'Cinderella' (2015) brings in some big names to recreate one of the most popular fairy tales. Lily James plays Ella, Helena Bonham Carter plays the fairy godmother, and Cate Blanchett plays the evil stepmother. The biggest difference, however, comes from the fact that it's not a musical.

'The Sword in the Stone' - Not much is known about the remake of the tale of the plucky young squire Arthur or "Wart," and his magical companion, Merlin. What we do know however, is that it’s sure to be done right with Bryan Cogman (the writer and producer of 'Game of Thrones') at the wheel.

'Peter Pan' - This is decidedly not the first, nor the last, adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s 'Peter Pan.' From the grown-up version in 'Hook' (1991) to the tale of inspiration in 'Finding Neverland' (2004), we’ve seen a lot of different sides of Peter Pan. We so far only know the director of the film, David Lowery (pictured here), who also directed 'Pete’s Dragon. Let’s just hope it’s better received than 'Pan' (2015). Think happy thoughts.

'Tinker Bell' - As an added bonus, the sassy fairy sidekick is also getting her own backstory. Reese Witherspoon will be playing the role of Tinker Bell in the live-action film. 'The Little Mermaid' x 3 - You may be confused with all the conflicting information out there about the new 'Little Mermaid' film, which is probably because there are actually three. The actual Disney remake is still fairly early on, but has recently gained some steam.

- Halle Bailey has just been cast as Ariel, and Disney has assured fans that more casting announcements will be coming soon. 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' - Disney’s oldest animated feature film will be getting a reboot (again). Originally released in 1937, it’s surprising that Snow White wasn’t brought up earlier on in the lineup. Not much is known about the remake as of yet, but it’s looking like Erin Cressida Wilson ('The Girl on the Train,' picture) is going to direct, and reports suggest that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul ('La La Land') are going to whistle while they work... on these new songs.

Rose Red
- Rose Red is Snow White’s sister, however she has little to do with the well-known Disney tale. Rumors are that Brie Larson may be looking at the titular role. Evan Daugherty ('Snow White and the Huntsman,' (pictured) is writing the script, reportedly basing her on the character from Grimms’ Fairy Tales.' See also: The dark side of Walt Disney.

Cruella and more: The breakdown of live-action Disney
Emma Stone reinvents Cruella de Vil, and fans are wild for it
© BrunoPress
Disney movies often make us nostalgic, whether you're seeing them for the second time round or the hundredth time. In recent years, Disney is on a roll with their live-action remakes, and they're showing no signs of stopping!
The hottest buzz right now is around Emma Stone's reinvention of Disney's most fabulous villain: Cruella de Vil. The live-action adaptation of the animated classic '101 Dalmatians' will actually be Miss de Vil's origin story, set in the 1970s.
Disney announced a new trailer, and released a poster with a black-and-white close-up of Stone in a very glam-punk take on the nefarious fashionista, and fans cannot wait for more. Of course, Stone has big shoes to fill, as the animated film already had a 1996 live-action remake starring Glenn Close as Cruella. This new backstory, of young fashion designer Estella de Vil whose obsession for dog fur earns her the nickname of a lifetime, will be out in May.
Until then, click and find out more about these remakes, past and future. Who will be playing your favorite character?
