Disney movies often make us nostalgic, whether you're seeing them for the second time round or the hundredth time. In recent years, Disney is on a roll with their live-action remakes, and they're showing no signs of stopping!
The studio recently unveiled a first look at the new live-action version of 'The Little Mermaid' at its D23 Expo, showing Halle Bailey as Ariel singing some impressive notes from 'Part of Your World.' Though some racist comments about having a Black actress as the lead character, even though Ariel is a completely fictional half-amphibian creature, have made the rounds, the reactions young Black girls are having to the sneak peek are much louder. Videos are going viral of parents recording their daughters "blind reacting" to the trailer, and they show a heartwarming surprise, awe, and joy that that their favourite princess looks like them.
The film will also star Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Javier Bardem (King Triton), Melissa McCarthy, (Ursula), Awkwafina (Scuttle), and Daveed Diggs (Sebastian). "I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears)," Bailey wrote on Instagram July 12 after filming wrapped.
