A third installment of the ‘Top Gun’ franchise has officially been confirmed, with Tom Cruise set to reprise his role as Maverick. The announcement was made on April 16 during CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where Paramount revealed the project is currently in development with a script underway.
The new film follows the massive success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (2022), which grossed US$1.5 billion worldwide and became one of the highest-grossing films in US box-office history. The sequel also earned six Academy Award nominations and won for Best Sound, revitalizing theaters in the post-pandemic era.
While the full cast has yet to be confirmed, several stars from the second installment, including Miles Teller and Glen Powell, could return. A director has not yet been announced, though Joseph Kosinski helmed ‘Maverick.’
