A prayer delivered by Pete Hegseth, the secretary of war, during a Pentagon worship service has drawn widespread attention for its striking resemblance to a famous line from 'Pulp Fiction'(1994) rather than the Bible. The remarques, shared during a sermon on April 15, left viewers questioning whether the source was scripture or cinema.

Hegseth referenced what he called 'CSAR 25:17,' a nod to 'Book of Ezekiel 25:17', while recounting a prayer tied to a military rescue mission. However, much of the wording closely mirrored the stylized version popularized by Samuel L Jackson’s character in the film, rather than the original biblical verse.

While the final line of the prayer includes elements from scripture, it diverges significantly, replacing “I am the Lord” with “my call sign is Sandy One.” The blend of religious and cinematic language quickly sparked reactions online, with critics calling the moment confusing and inappropriate for a formal setting.

Indeed, the Bible remains one of the most quoted texts in history, often shaping language across culture and media. But as this moment shows, the line between scripture and screenwriting can blur. Click on to explore more quotes that sound biblical—but aren’t.
