We can't deny that younger women with older men is the norm in most movies. However, there are some rather famous films where the opposite is also true. Indeed, there is nothing inherently wrong with this, but there are movies where the age gap just gets a little bit too uncomfortable. We're talking about characters who have love interests that are way younger (or older) than them—some are even underage! Though not always the case, it should be noted that, many times, the age gap between the actors is not as big as the characters they play. Sometimes it's less, other times more.
The romance between Laura Dern and Sam Neill's characters in 'Jurassic Park' is causing a stir three decades after the film's release, as the actors' age gap has come to people's attention. “Laura was a tender age," Neill told The Sunday Times. "I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady."
At the time of filming, Dern was reportedly 23 years old and Neill was around 44. Dern told the UK outlet that at the time she felt it was "completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill." Some have also pointed out that in the original book, the characters are indeed written with such an age gap as well.
"And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, 'Wow! We're not the same age?'" Dern added.
