'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (2011) -

David Fincher's film is based on the novel by Swedish writer Stieg Larsson and features a journalist, played by Daniel Craig, who's investigating the disappearance of a girl. He's assisted by a brilliant computer hacker (Rooney Mara). The movie was shot almost entirely in Sweden, with some scenes filmed in Norway and other countries.

'Ex Machina' (2014) -

Alex Garland's sci-fi thriller is set in the wilds of Alaska, but location filming actually took place at Juvet Landscape Hotel in Valldalen, Norway. Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Sonoya Mizuno, and Oscar Isaac star.

'Hanna' (2011) -

Kuusamon in northern Finland provides the setting for the early part of this thriller, which stars Saoirse Ronan as the title character, a young girl who is trained as an assassin. Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett costar.

'The Heroes of Telemark' (1965) -

Filmed on location in Norway, 'The Heroes of Telemark' is based on the memoirs of Second World War Norwegian resistance soldier Knut Haukelid. A team of commandos set their sights on the destruction of a Nazi-run facility producing heavy water, which could be used in the manufacture of an atomic weapon.

'The Seventh Seal' (1957) -

Ingmar Bergman's historical fantasy is set in Sweden and stars Max von Sydow as a medieval knight. The set piece is a game of chess, where Sydow's character makes his move against the personification of Death. 'The Seventh Seal' is considered one of the great classics of modern cinema.

'The Danish Girl' (2015) -

Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander star in this biographical drama directed by Tom Hooper and filmed in and around Copenhagen in Denmark, among other locations. This remarkable love story is inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.

This spooky Norwegian supernatural thriller was filmed in a variety of Scandinavian locations, including Oslo in Norway, and Västra Götaland, Gothenburg, Trollhättan, and Kiruna in Sweden.

'Babette’s Feast' (1987) -

While Karen Blixen's short story is set in Norway, the film adaptation transposes the drama to Denmark, where a strict and austere religious community takes in a French refugee from the Franco-Prussian War. Blixen is best known for her memoir 'Out of Africa,' also made into a film and starring Merry Streep and Robert Redford. 'Babette's Feast' was the first Danish movie to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Paul Greengrass directs this thoughtful but disturbing drama that examines the 2011 Norway attacks perpetrated by Anders Behring Breivik, in which 77 people were killed. Norway as well as Iceland provided the locations.

'Pelle the Conqueror' (1987) -

A hugely successful movie directed by Bille August and starring Max von Sydow, 'Pelle the Conqueror' follows the fortunes of two Swedish immigrants to Denmark, a father and son (played by Sydow and Pelle Hvenegaard). Scenes were filmed in Sweden and Denmark.

'The American' (2010) -

'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' (2018) -

Norway's dramatic Pulpit Rock and its sheer 600-m (1,968-ft) drop provided Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) with a particular challenging moment in 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout.' The location doubled up for a mountain range in India.

Most of the winter scenes featured in this Bond movie were filmed in Iceland, but additional chase footage was shot at Svalbard and Jostedalsbreen National Park, in Norway. Pierce Brosnan stars as 007.

Though set in Moscow, 'Gorky Park' was filmed in Helsinki and Stockholm, after Soviet authorities denied the crew entry into Russia. William Hurt and Lee Marvin head the cast.

The plot line is loosely based on the superior 'The Day of the Jackal' (1973), but the action in this remake takes place in several other countries besides France, including Finland. 'The Jackal' stars Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, and Sidney Poitier.
