'Dawn of the Dead' (1978)
- One of the best (if not the best) zombie movies of all time, 'Dawn of the Dead' is indeed a classic of the genre. A group of survivors among an unfolding zombie onslaught take refuge in a local mall in this film. Makeup artist Tom Savini drew inspiration from things he witnessed during the Vietnam War to create horrifying effects. Not only is it gory, but the film is also an anti-consumerist satire.

Zombie movies are quite unique: they not only fall into the horror genre, but also many times contain elements of other genres. It's not uncommon for zombie movies to mix elements of sci-fi or comedy, for instance, making them really entertaining to watch. And then we have the gore, of course. There's also the amazing (and not so amazing) special effects that fans of the genre love so much, paired with gross sound effects. After all, we are curious to know what eating a human brain would sound like, right?
In this gallery, you'll find a list of some of the greatest zombie movies ever made. Click on and start watching these today!
