Video game franchises that inspired movies and TV series
'The Last of Us' finale divides fans with a difficult choice
© BrunoPress
The gaming world has already inspired many movies and TV series, some of which have been hugely successful, and others not so much. Whatever the outcome, game adaptations have proven to be a popular route in the entertainment industry.
In 2023, HBO released 'The Last of Us' based on the game, in which Pedro Pascal plays Joel and Bella Ramsey plays Ellie. The show has been a runaway success and came to its season one finale on March 12 after nine episodes. While the show has garnered much success among those who never played the game, those who have played the game are comparing the show to its original material to mixed results.
Bella Ramsey previously warned in an interview with Vogue that the finale is, "going to divide people massively–massively," and that may indeed be because the show is incredibly faithful to the game. But many are arguing that the show, necessarily, has to compact so much of what made the game so appealing. Overall it was an ending that many people will continue to think about whether they played the game or not. Stephen Kelly of the BBC put it, "It's an ending about the difficulty of love at all costs, and what it means to find something to live for amidst the ashes." The series was so well done it's expected to rack up Emmy Awards.
