'Frankenstein' (2025) may have missed out on the night’s top prize at the 98th Academy Awards, but it still made its mark in the technical categories. The gothic reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, directed by Guillermo del Toro, took home three awards during the March 15 ceremony in Los Angeles.

The film won Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design, recognizing the teams behind its elaborate visual world. Despite nine nominations in total, 'Frankenstein' fell short in several major categories, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Sound.

Few fictional figures have captivated the silver screen as persistently as the Frankenstein Monster. Dracula may rival him, and Sherlock Holmes has certainly kept pace, but the creature stitched together in Mary Shelley’s imagination remains one of cinema’s most iconic figures. First unleashed in her 1818 gothic masterpiece 'Frankenstein,' the Monster became a cultural symbol of humanity daring to play God and facing the consequences of its own creation.

From silent films to campy extravaganzas and modern blockbusters, the Monster’s shadow continues to loom large. Click through the following gallery to explore the films that have kept this legend alive.
