Bonnie Tyler is no longer in a medically induced coma but remains in intensive care following emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, her family and management team announced on June 15. The 75-year-old singer, best known for the hit song 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' underwent the procedure in early May and is continuing what her representatives described as a slow but steady recovery.
In a statement posted to her official website, Tyler’s team said doctors remain confident she will make a good recovery, though it will take time. As a result, all performances scheduled through August have been canceled or postponed until next year. Organizers remain hopeful, however, that the singer will be able to return to the stage for a series of shows currently planned between late October and mid-December.
Indeed, world-famous musicians aren’t immune to the physical toll of life in the spotlight. From Shakira to Dolly Parton and The Rolling Stones, many artists have had to cancel shows due to health issues.
