Whether you're in the front row of a stadium or just singing along to the radio, there's nothing quite like a power ballad to stir the emotions. These rousing anthems inspire an almost instinctive reaction to punch fists into the air, as you belt out those heartfelt lyrics.

Power ballads are frequently associated with the 1980s, and indeed it helps to have a 1980s-style mane of hair to fling around as you sing. One of the best to ever fling his hair around was Meat Loaf. The 'Bat out of Hell' singer sadly passed away on January 20, 2022. The news was shared in a statement by his family on Facebook: "Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side." The multi-talented performer was famous for his impressive vocal range and his theatrical live shows. As well as releasing one of the best-selling albums in history, he appeared in movies live 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' (1975), 'Wayne's World' (1992), and 'Fight Club' (1999). His 1993 song 'I'd Do Anything For Love' is perhaps one of the most iconic power ballads of all time. The family's statement ended with this: "From his heart to your souls…don't ever stop rocking!"
