Taylor Swift has released the music video for 'Patient Zero,' starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The pop star premiered the video during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, after releasing an expanded edition of 'The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore' on September 25.
In the video, Swift and Johnson appear in matching gray outfits as they mirror each other. Farrell plays Swift’s toxic ex, who is now in a relationship with Johnson. As Johnson’s character begins to experience troubling behavior, Swift’s character appears to warn her to escape the same fate.
The video eventually reveals that Swift is a ghost, and it ends with Johnson visiting Swift’s grave, where a newspaper clipping suggests that Swift died under mysterious circumstances and Farrell inherited her fortune. Cara Delevingne also appears in the video, along with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly.
Swift had been dropping cryptic hints about the video ahead of its release, including a 13-second clip featuring images of bodies plunging into water, a black rose, and two women standing at a gravesite. She also shared a behind-the-scenes clip in which she appeared to hint that the VMAs would be the perfect place to premiere the video.

These Easter eggs encourage fans to solve a riddle, speculate on the meaning behind a subject, or crack a code about her next moves.
