The Pinnacles - WA - One of Western Australia’s iconic landscapes, found roughly 200km north of Perth, are the limestone formations of the Pinnacles. Located along Australia’s Coral Coast, within the Nambung National Park, these formations stand up to four metres in height, portraying an array of faces, shapes and sizes.

Umpherston Sinkhole - SA - Formed as a result of a collapse from surface limestone dissolving over time, the sinkhole was first occupied by natural greenery then additionally cultivated by human hands to reach the status of perhaps the most unique garden in the country in the present day.

Cave
- Thousands of years ago, the sinkhole had been a cave that had formed because parts of the Mount Gambier limestone had been dissolved.
When the top of the cave chamber eventually collapsed, a large open pit (called a sinkhole) was formed. The Mount Gambier district has hundreds of such caves and sinkholes due to this abundance of limestone, including in its city centre.

Wolfe Creek Crater - WA
- The Wolfe Creek meteorite crater was only discovered by Europeans during an aerial survey in 1947.
Known as “shale balls”, these rusty rocks provide the evidence that the structure was a huge meteorite crater. These rust balls represent the deeply weathered remains of an iron meteorite that exploded when it collided with Earth about 300,000 years ago – clear and stark evidence of what made the crater.

Sand - Huge quantities of sand have blown into the crater since it was formed, so it would have originally been far deeper. Its base is essentially flat, except for a slight rise in the centre. This is a feature of many meteorite craters and represents where the earth rebounded following the explosion.

Visitors
- Visitors to Wycliffe Well go back to the mid-19th century when this little oasis (the spot is located on top of a high water table) was a stop for telegraph linemen. Fast-forward to World War II and Wycliffe Well continued its run as a way-station, this time for servicemen.
World War II soldiers were the first to record their sightings– so many that the folks who ran the roadhouse started to keep a log of visitors streaking through the night sky, a practice still kept until today.

Lake Hillier - WA
- Lake Hillier is a pink-coloured lake on Middle Island in WA.
The reason for its pink colour is still a topic that is not fully understood by scientists, although most suspect it has to do with the presence of the Dunaliella salina microalgae. But the presence of red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts could be another explanation.

Light - Its pink colour is less accentuated when viewed from the surface but it is very prominent from above. From an aerial view this lake looks more like a fine pink coloured bubble gum but in close up, it's more of a light pink.

Wore away
- The Devils Marbles started out, many million years ago, when an upsurge of molten rock reached the surface, spread out and settled into a solid layer. That one block of granite then developed horizontal and vertical cracks and split into many rectangular blocks. Rocks of that shape are called cheesers.
Over the following millions of years, erosion did what it always does: it wore away the edges.

Port Arthur Ghost Town - TAS

Spirits
- According to legend, the multitude of ghosts and spirits who call Port Arthur home are victims of the brutal conditions of the prison itself.
The Commandant instituted a "Silent System", where prisoners were forced to stay silent, wear hoods over their heads, and remain in isolation for the majority of their lives, conditions which drove many prisoners insane.
People have reported that certain prison cells have held their former occupant's depressed spirits in them, have heard the moans of the child prisoners at one of the facilities, and experienced mysterious disturbances at the officer's households. Port Arthur seems to be the Mecca of paranormal, chilling stories.
