Every November, thousands of people flock to Taunggyi in Myanmar (formerly Burma) to experience a spectacular event—the Taunggyi Balloon Festival. Every year, enormous paper balloons are released into the sky and many people come to watch, while others come to participate.
The Taunggyi Balloon Festival is one of the highlights of the annual Tazaungdaing festival, also known as the Festival of Lights, a celebration that marks the end of the rainy season. The festival closes with massive balloons decorated with burning candles being released. It is a truly unique show indeed.
