Malaysia’s transport ministry has announced that the deep-sea search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will resume on December 30, more than a decade after the plane disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The operation will be carried out by Ocean Infinity, a US-based marine robotics firm contracted under a “no-find, no-fee” agreement.
The new search will run intermittently for 55 days across targeted zones in the Indian Ocean believed to offer the highest chance of locating the missing Boeing 777. The most recent search was halted in April due to bad weather, while earlier, incredibly expensive, multinational efforts found only scattered debris washed ashore on African coastlines and Indian Ocean islands.
Malaysian authorities say the renewed operation reflects the government’s commitment to providing closure for families of the 239 people who were on board when MH370 vanished on March 8, 2014.
