The Catholic Church is no stranger to large and magnificent architecture. After all, the seat of Catholicism in Vatican City is home to St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world. But nestled in the middle of Barcelona in Spain is a towering architectural marvel that remains unfinished after more than 140 years: Sagrada Família.

The organization in charge of its construction has announced that the build will finally be finished by 2026. But will that truly be the end? And why has it taken so long to build this impressive monument anyway?
