There are 16 nations around the world that deny felons entrance to their country. Many nations require a visa process in order to enter a country, varying from nation to nation. Some of those visa processes directly ask prospective travelers if they have been convicted of a crime. This factor can determine whether a person is granted entrance to a nation or not.

The assessment of someone's criminal history becomes quite blurry when examining specific non-felony offenses, too. For example, a person who is convicted of a misdemeanor crime in one nation can be denied entrance into another country because the crime is considered a felony there.
