The first supermoon of the year has recently lit up the skies around the world. October's supermoon is also known as the Harvest Moon or Hunter's Moon, and the phenomenon coincides with the end of the harvest season.
The Harvest Moon is at its closest point to Earth (known as the perigee), making the moon appear larger and brighter than the typical full moon.
