John Krasinski reveals how he saved Jim and Pam's relationship in 'The Office'
Some TV show romances are so strong that they feel real. The initial meeting, the trials and tribulations, the inevitable heartbreak, and the happy ending, all take viewers on a roller coaster of emotions. Through decades of entertainment excellence, there have been some character couples that stand out from the pack.
John Krasinski starred as Jim in 'The Office' opposite Jenna Fischer's Pam for eight years. He says there was only one time he really put his foot down and interfered with a storyline! Pam goes on maternity leave in season 8, during which time Jim goes on a business trip with Pam's replacement, Cathy. Cathy ends up hitting on Jim in his hotel room and the original script had Jim and Cathy make out. When Krasinski saw this he went straight to the show's creator and said "I’m not going to shoot it." He explained his reasoning like this: "There is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back."
In the end, Krasinski got his wish, and Jim and Pam were saved from a cheating debacle. They remain one of TV's most beloved couples to this day, which might not have been the case if Krasinski hadn't stepped in!
