On May 21, Deadline reported that the BBC has chosen to reimagine Hercule Poirot for television once again, with the network obtaining the adaptation rights after "a highly competitive situation, with other networks and streamers bidding."
The good news? Mammoth Screen, an organization with an extensive history of bringing Christie's stories to the screen, is overseeing the adaptation of 'Poirot,' which will also be developed alongside Agatha Christie Limited. The bad news? Imagine the challenge of following in the footsteps of the incomparable David Suchet!
During its 24-year run from 1989 to 2013, the series produced 70 episodes that covered nearly all of Christie's significant Poirot work, from novels to short stories.
Throughout the years, numerous actors have portrayed the Belgian detective, ranging from Peter Ustinov to Kenneth Branagh, yet many agree that Suchet delivered the most iconic version of the character.
The casting process for the next Poirot is currently underway. No reports have yet emerged regarding potential candidates for the iconic role.
TV shows like 'Poirot' have been a part of our lives for as long as many of us can remember. But not all shows are created equal—some series have been more successful than others, and, of course, some we miss and others we don't.
Indeed, when one of our favorite long-lost series is rebooted, it's always a nerve-racking wait to see if it does the original show justice or is simply a money grab.
