The internet is having a field day with the news that Broadway star Ben Platt will be reprising his famous on-stage role for the film adaptation of 'Dear Evan Hansen.' The trailer, released May 18, shows a 27-year-old Platt squeeze himself back into a high schooler, and many are not convinced.
Platt said of his transformation, "I’d lost about 15 pounds and did a very specific diet, grew my hair out, and was shaving to make sure that I didn’t look like I had five o’clock shadow all the time, you know. I was just stripping myself into being a teenager for the last time. For what is hopefully the last time,” Vanity Fair reports. Both Platt and director Stephen Chbosky wanted to immortalize Platt's award-winning stage performance on film.
"His understanding of the character is so complete and so profound," Chbosky said. "I couldn’t imagine anybody else playing it. It’s his part. I felt very strongly about it. And to me it was never even a consideration.”
Audiences willingly suspend their disbelief when they dive into the fictional universe of film and television, but the reality behind the actors playing those roles can be shocking! From pre-pubescent stars embodying the darkest parts of humanity, to aging actors completely changing our perception of high school students, check out this gallery to see which actors were way too young, and way too old, for their roles.
