Carly Simon has revealed she recently underwent surgery for basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, in a July 27 statement to People. The 83-year-old singer said the cancer was removed, but the procedure affected her appearance and made her more self-conscious.
“I was treated for basal cell carcinoma on my face. The cancer was removed, but the surgery affected my appearance and made me more self-conscious about being seen in public,” she said.
In the same statement, Simon also confirmed she is living with Parkinson’s disease, though she stressed she continues to move forward with her life and career. The update comes as she prepares to release her first original album in years, ‘Comes in Waves,’ on August 14.
