David Beckham has officially joined the ranks of British knighthood. The sports/fashion icon was knighted on November 4 by King Charles III in a ceremony at Windsor Castle. He was joined by his parents and wife Victoria—who designed his custom suit for the occasion.
The honor recognizes David Beckham’s contributions to sport and charity, marking a new chapter for the former England captain, now formally known as Sir David Beckham.
“I couldn’t be prouder,” he said, reflecting on his deep patriotism and admiration for the British monarchy. The 50-year-old, who famously queued 12 hours to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, spent two decades playing for clubs across England, Spain, the US, Italy, and France. Since retiring in 2013, he’s taken on a leadership role as president and co-owner of MLS team Inter Miami.
Indeed, receiving the title of “Sir” or “Dame” is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed for a lifetime of achievement—and it’s not just reserved for British citizens. Honorary knighthoods have also been awarded to international figures whose impact transcends borders.
