ABC has suspended 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' indefinitely following remarks the late-night host made about the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his September 15 and 16 monologues, Kimmel said “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk,” and speculated that the alleged killer might have been a pro-Trump Republican.
The decision came after Nexstar Communications Group announced it would stop airing the show, with company president Andrew Alford calling Kimmel’s comments “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse." President Donald Trump praised the suspension on Truth Social, saying ABC “finally had the courage to do what had to be done.”
ABC has broadcast Kimmel’s show since 2003. He's just one in a long list of celebrity talk show hosts who audiences have come to know and love (or loath). From Johnny Carson to Ellen DeGeneres, there are dozens of hosts who paved the way and whose influence will never be forgotten.
