Gucci Mane has revealed his diagnosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in his new book, ‘Episodes: The Diary of a Recovering Mad Man.’ The rapper discusses a 2020 mental health crisis that led him to seek professional help, stating that therapy, medication, and support from his wife, Keyshia Ka’Oir, were key to his recovery.

Speaking on the October 20 episode of 'The Breakfast Club,' he emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, “I don’t ever want to have an episode again. I’m gonna see a therapist, [even] if I have to take medicine.”

Ka’Oir, who shares two children with Gucci Mane, described her intervention during the crisis, having arranged for him to be hospitalized and later developing a system to help monitor his mental health.

The rapper said fatherhood was a major motivator in his decision to seek treatment, noting that Ka’Oir was pregnant at the time of his episode. “I don’t want to raise a family and then my mental health [is] gone,” he shared.

Schizophrenia is a complex condition that can affect perception and reality, including hallucinations and delusions. Nearly 24 million people around the world live with a schizophrenic disorder, making up about 0.32% of the global population.

Gucci Mane’s openness adds to a growing number of public figures speaking candidly about mental health, aiming to reduce stigma and encourage others to seek help. Read on to learn more about other well-known individuals who have lived with schizophrenia.
