In addition to their age difference, some fans were quick to highlight that the pair had actually encountered each other years earlier, when Eilish was sixteen and Rutherford was twenty-six. Nevertheless, Eilish and Rutherford did not take the situation too seriously. They playfully responded to the media attention by embracing Halloween costumes that emphasized their age disparity: Eilish dressed up as a baby, while Rutherford skillfully transformed himself into an elderly man using prosthetics. However, in May 2023, the couple decided to end their relationship.
