More than 100,000 ice-cream bars made by Florida-based company Rich’s Ice Cream Co. have been recalled following concerns of a possible listeria monocytogenes contamination. The notice was published by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on July 17. The recall affects lot numbers 24351 through 25156 and spans 23 states.

Classified as a Class II recall, the alert indicates that use of the affected products could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues, and the chance of serious consequences is considered remote. The recall was initiated on June 27, and a total of 110,292 products are potentially impacted, the FDA stated.

Listeria can be particularly dangerous for pregnant individuals, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The bacteria can cause symptoms like fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues, and in rare cases, lead to more serious complications.
