A Michigan-based company has recalled two candy bar varieties after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned of potentially life-threatening undeclared allergens.
Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory issued a voluntary recall on October 24 for its Peanut Butter Crush bars, which may contain undeclared cashews, and its Ca$hew Cow bars, which may contain undeclared peanuts. The affected products were sold in Michigan and New York.
The FDA said people with nut allergies “run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.” To date, no illnesses have been reported, and the company said the issue was caused by a temporary packaging error. Consumers are urged to return the recalled bars for a full refund.
