Drug treatment for newly diagnosed ADHD patients may lower risks of substance misuse, self-harm, transport accidents, and criminality, according to a new study.

Researchers say these problems are often linked to hallmark ADHD symptoms, including impulsivity and distractibility. The disorder affects an estimated 5% of children and 2.5% of adults worldwide, with diagnoses continuing to rise.
