The
European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is warning that the proliferation in mosquito-borne diseases across the continent is set to become the "new normal" as prolonged and more intense hot weather visits the region. Summer is traditionally mosquito season, but a surge in reported cases of West Nile virus,
chikungunya, and dengue fever in mid-2025 is alarming health and climate scientists. These are potentially deadly diseases that could become endemic in Europe, and there's no cure for any of them.
